Nutrition Assignment

Nutrition Assignment-Health II

Develop a full meal with the help of "My Fitness Pal", the text and internet sources (government USDA).   https://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/dietary-guidance-0
In the meal (hopefully dinner) you need to include foods from each group.  

***I do fully understand some of you have food allergies and follow specific diets and you can explain that when you make your meal.  :)

What do you need to turn in?

·      A “Menu” of what was in your dinner
    THE NOTES FROM THE CHAPTER ON NUTRITION*** We did this last week.  
·      An explanation of what nutrients and vitamins are in the meal.  Macronutrients and micronutrients!! 
·      An approximation of the calories in the meal.
·      A picture of your meal with your family.
·      A short paragraph or two on what you thought of the assignment (Was it easy to make a nutritious meal? Did your parents help out?  Were they impressed with your meal?  How’d it taste?)
Your parents grade/scoring guide.  THIS IS VITAL.  NO GRADE WITHOUT!!!

& Fitness pal guide makes this easy!  You might have to use your book or the Internet to include information about the cancer/disease fighting (hint…hint) compounds found in foods.

Scoring Guide for Nutrition Assignment

Preparation:  Was the food handled correctly?  No cross contamination…surfaces clean and prepared?   Did they communicate to you what they were doing?  Did they do all the prep by themselves or did you have to help?  (It’s okay, but we are asking kids to do this themselves with as little “physical” help from you as possible.

Cooking:   Did your child cook/prepare the food to your specifications?   Was it cooked the way you like it?  Was it brought to an appropriate temperature to kill any bacteria that might be present?  Did they appear to be organized in their efforts?

Presentation:   Was the meal appealing?  Was it presented in an organized fashion or just thrown on the plate?  Was the table set in an appropriate manner?

Taste:  Was the meal tasty?  Did they work to make it appetizing?  Did you personally enjoy it?  Did your family members enjoy it and feel that it was a meal they would like to have again?

Nutritional Assessment:  Did your child include the basic five food groups or a nice variety of foods?  Did you feel that it was a nutritious meal?   Did you feel your meal was “calorically responsible”?  J  Did you happen to notice that they included foods that act as “antioxidants”?
